Smoked brisket for supper! To die for!! The dry rub is 1/2 c brown sugar, 2 Tbsp paprika, 1 Tbsp each onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, 2 tsp pepper, 1 tsp dry mustard, pinch cayenne pepper. Voila! #realfood #foodprep #farmlife #grassfedbeef
#springcoopgiveaway What perfect timing it would be to win a new coop from @cityyolks, @cutest_coops , and @mannaprohomestead . Our old coop is downhill from the rest of our land, hence storm water mud all the time. We decided to move our flock to the other side of the barn and have spent a lot of time and money building the perfect hen house and run. Our new chickens are arriving May 1st, and the last thing on our list is to build/design/purchase a dry, warm coop! Side note: The new Pekin ducks and Sebastopol geese are coming April 1st and we’ve already stocked up on Manna Pro duckling and gosling food. Wouldn’t trust our new babies with anything else! #farmlife
As with most holidays, Valentine’s Day is nested in pagan roots. February 15 was the pagan festival of Lupercalia. To begin the festival, members of the Luperci (an order of Roman priests) would gather at a sacred cave and sacrifice a goat which represented fertility. They would then cut the goat’s hide into strips and dip the strips in blood. (Romantic so far, no?) They would then march through the town, gently slapping women with the goat hide. Instead of beating the priests to death with rocks, women actually welcomed the slap of the hide, believing it would make them more fertile in the coming year.
